Our Approach

How we approach our work together

HEALING THROUGH CONNECTION

Understanding the Patterns that Shape Us

Relationships shape how we experience ourselves and the world. Connection is where we are wounded, and often where we heal. It is through our relationships that we develop our sense of safety, belonging, and the meaning we make of our experiences.

At Hopper Counseling, we believe healing begins with understanding rather than judgment. Together, we'll explore the emotions, beliefs, and ways you've learned to protect yourself, honoring them as responses that once made sense. Some continue to serve you well. Others may no longer support the life or relationships you want today. By approaching them with curiosity rather than criticism, we create space for deeper connection, greater freedom, and a life that more fully reflects who you are.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is one of the foundational approaches Hopper Counseling draws from to support this work with individuals, couples, and families. Insight opens the door. New experiences of safety, connection, and greater freedom allow lasting change to unfold.

NAVIGATING LIFE'S TRANSITIONS

When Life Changes Without Your Permission

Illness, injury, caregiving, disability, career changes, and other major life transitions can reshape how we see ourselves and the future we imagined. These experiences often affect far more than daily routines—they can challenge our identity, relationships, confidence, and sense of purpose. Healing isn't always about changing our circumstances. Sometimes it's about discovering new ways to live meaningfully within them.

Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) is one of the foundational approaches Hopper Counseling draws from to support this work. It combines practical problem-solving with emotional support, helping you navigate barriers, strengthen coping skills, and build a life that reflects your values and who you are today.

HEALING FROM THE PAST

Finding Freedom from the Past

Many difficult experiences soften with time, supportive relationships, and the work of making sense of what we've lived through. Sometimes, however, an experience remains emotionally present, resurfacing in our relationships, our bodies, or situations that awaken old patterns of fear, pain, or protection. Healing isn't about forgetting the past. It's about creating a new relationship to those experiences so they no longer define your present or limit your future.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is one of the foundational approaches Hopper Counseling draws from to support this work. Through guided eye movements and imagery, it helps the brain process unresolved experiences, allowing them to be integrated into your story rather than continuing to shape your present.

Additional practices

A Personalized Approach

Healing is universal, but no two people heal in the same way. At Hopper Counseling, therapy is tailored to your unique needs, values, and way of experiencing the world.

Alongside our foundational approaches, we may incorporate mindfulness, somatic awareness, breathwork, and practices drawn from both Eastern and Western traditions. These practices support healing of the mind, body, emotion, and spirit, offering additional ways to deepen self-awareness, strengthen resilience, and cultivate lasting well-being.
